Why Granit Xhaka?
Granit Xhaka is more than just a player — he's a leader, a hero in the midfield, and a national icon. Born in Basel and rising through the youth ranks, he earned his first senior break at FC Basel, winning the Swiss Super League in consecutive seasons and claiming the Swiss Cup. In the summer of 2025, Xhaka made his return to the English top flight by signing with Sunderland. He was appointed captain almost immediately, taking on the challenge of galvanising his new teammates and representing the club with grit and vision.
On the international stage, Xhaka is Switzerland’s most capped player. He has featured in multiple FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Championships and led the national team with pride. He also enjoyed early success with Switzerland’s youth teams, winning the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2009.
