Quebec City Kid

Roy grew up in Quebec City and was drafted 51st overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 1984. Few could have predicted what came next.

As a rookie in 1985–86 he backstopped Montreal to the Stanley Cup and, aged just 20, became the youngest winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as play-off MVP.

Montreal Magic

Roy won the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender in 1989, 1990 and 1992. In 1993 he produced one of the great play-off runs, winning a record ten consecutive overtime games on the way to a second Stanley Cup and a second Conn Smythe.

He became the face of the Canadiens, but his time in Montreal ended abruptly in December 1995, when he was traded to Colorado.
