Roberto Baggio began his career at Fiorentina, and it was here, playing in purple at the Artemio Franchi, that the world first witnessed the Divine Ponytail's extraordinary gift. His flowing runs, his technical brilliance in the tightest spaces, and his devastating shooting made him the most talked-about player in Italy before Juventus paid a then-Italian record fee that provoked riots in the streets of Florence. The city never entirely forgave Turin for taking him.

Rui Costa spent seven years at Fiorentina and became one of the most beloved foreign players in the club's history. The Portuguese playmaker's vision, his passing range, and his ability to unlock defences with a single perfectly-weighted ball made him one of the finest number tens in European football during the late 1990s. He would move to AC Milan, but his heart, as he has said many times, remained in Florence.

Luca Toni won the World Cup with Italy in 2006 on the back of a magnificent season at Fiorentina. 31 goals in Serie A that year made him the finest centre-forward in the country. Federico Chiesa continued the tradition of brilliant Fiorentina attackers before his moves to Juventus and then Liverpool. Dusan Vlahovic's prolific spell, 21 goals in the first half of 2021-22 before Juventus came calling, demonstrated that the club retains the ability to develop world-class striking talent.
