Roberto Carlos joined Real Madrid in 1996 and spent eleven seasons at the Bernabéu — winning three Champions League titles between 1998 and 2002 and four La Liga titles as part of one of the most decorated squads in the club's history. His combination of pace, power and set-piece ability from left back made him one of the most exciting full-backs the game had seen, and his partnership with Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo and Beckham placed him at the heart of the Galácticos era.

For Brazil he earned 125 caps — then a record for the national team — and was a central figure in the 2002 World Cup victory in Japan and South Korea, playing every minute of the tournament.
