W.G. Grace
Widely credited as the father of modern cricket, Grace's career spanned more than four decades in the 19th century and helped establish the sport's rules, techniques and popularity as we'd recognise them today. No single figure did more to shape the early game.
Wasim Akram — "The Sultan of Swing"
Regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers the game has produced, Akram took 916 international wickets for Pakistan across formats and was a pioneer of reverse swing at the highest level — a skill later generations of bowlers spent years trying to master.
Viv Richards
The most feared batsman of the great West Indies sides of the 1970s and '80s, Richards famously batted without a helmet at the height of the fast-bowling era and was named one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Century.
Virat Kohli
India's modern batting icon and former national captain, Kohli is one of the most prolific run-scorers across formats in the sport's history and, by some distance, one of cricket's biggest global draws.
Shane Warne
Warne took 708 Test wickets for Australia and is credited with reviving leg-spin bowling as a genuine match-winning art at the highest level. Widely considered one of the two greatest bowlers the game has ever seen, and one of its most charismatic characters.
Sachin Tendulkar — "The Little Master"
India's most celebrated batsman and the only player in history to score 100 international centuries, Tendulkar was named one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Century and remains the benchmark every generation of Indian batting talent is measured against.
