King came through the Spurs academy and spent his entire career at the club. He scored one of the fastest goals in Premier League history, after under ten seconds against Bradford in 2000, and he captained Spurs to the League Cup in 2008. His reading of the game and timing in the tackle were so good that he rarely needed to make a foul.
Chronic knee problems meant he often could not train between games, yet he continued to perform at the highest level. He won 21 caps for England and played at Euro 2004 and the 2010 World Cup. He later joined the Spurs coaching staff and works as a club ambassador.
