Bobby Moncur, the captain who lifted Newcastle's European trophy
Bobby Moncur came through Newcastle United's youth system and developed into a composed centre-half and natural leader. He captained the side during the 1968 to 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup campaign, when Newcastle negotiated opponents from the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Scotland before facing Újpest Dózsa in the final.
Moncur chose the biggest occasion for an extraordinary burst of scoring. He struck twice in the 3-0 first-leg victory at St James' Park and scored again in Budapest as Newcastle completed a 6-2 aggregate win. Those were his only competitive goals for the club, making the story one of football's great examples of an unlikely hero delivering at exactly the right time. He later played for Sunderland and Carlisle United and moved into management.
A Newcastle name attached to silverware
Moncur remains the captain who lifted Newcastle United's last major trophy won by the men's team before the long wait ended in 2025. His name represents leadership, European adventure and three perfectly timed goals. It makes a Players Couture design for supporters who know why 1969 still echoes around St James' Park.
How to wear the Bobby Moncur T-shirt
Wear it on match day, for away travel, at a pub screening or through an ordinary weekend when a replica shirt is not the easiest option. Pair it with denim and trainers, add an overshirt in cooler weather, or wear it with shorts through summer. It gives football supporters a clear way to represent the player and the memories behind the name. White gives the print a crisp finish, Black and Navy provide easy darker options, Grey has a softer athletic character and Red adds more impact.
Fit, fabric and made-to-order production
The T-shirt is made from soft ringspun cotton with a crew neck, short sleeves and a regular men's fit. It is available in White, Black, Red, Navy and Grey in sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. Check the size guide before ordering, particularly when buying for somebody else or choosing a looser fit.
Each garment is printed to order in the United Kingdom after the customer selects the colour and size. No finished pre-printed stock is produced before an order is placed. This reduces the need to hold large quantities of finished stock and allows Players Couture to maintain specialist names alongside widely recognised favourites. Free UK delivery is included.
Wash inside out with similar colours on a cool cycle. Avoid bleach, do not iron directly over the print and air dry where practical. These steps help protect the cotton shape and printed lettering through repeat wear.
