Carles Puyol is one of the greatest defenders in the history of football. Fierce, intelligent, loyal to a single club and central to the most successful period in Spanish football, he represents everything that a captain and leader should be. This Puyol hoodie from Players Couture is made for fans of Barcelona and Spain who want to wear the name of a defender who changed how a generation thought about what a centre-back could do. Puyol was born in La Pobla de Segur in Catalonia in 1978. He joined Barcelona's youth academy and spent his entire professional career at the club, making his debut in 1999 and retiring in 2014. In fifteen seasons as a Barcelona player, he won six La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues and twice lifted the Copa del Rey. He became club captain and was the embodiment of everything Barcelona stood for on the pitch. Committed to the point of recklessness, technically excellent and a natural leader who motivated teammates through example rather than words, he was the kind of player every squad needs at the back.

For Spain, Puyol was central to the most successful decade the national team has ever known. He was a key part of the sides that won Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, with Spain needing a goal to reach the final against Germany, Puyol rose to meet a corner in the 73rd minute and headed the ball into the net. A defender scoring the goal that sent Spain to their first World Cup final. It was a moment that captured everything about the player. Total commitment, total belief, total captain. Spain won the final against the Netherlands to claim their first ever World Cup. Puyol lifted the trophy as a cornerstone of that historic side.

He earned more than 100 caps for Spain and retired in 2014, forced out early by injuries that had accumulated across a career defined by maximum physical commitment to every game.
