Dennis Wise Chelsea T-Shirt | Players Couture

Dennis Wise captained Chelsea to the FA Cup in 1997 and 2000, the League Cup in 1998 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1998 — a period of trophy gathering at Stamford Bridge that had not been seen since the early 1970s. The combative midfielder was the heartbeat of Ruud Gullit's and then Gianluca Vialli's Chelsea sides, a player whose quality was often obscured by his reputation for aggression but whose contribution to every team he led was completely irreplaceable.

Wise's Chelsea career spanned eleven seasons and 445 appearances, making him the most reliable and important player of the club's transitional era. His leadership in the dressing room, his ability to set the competitive tempo of matches from central midfield and his contribution to the series of cup victories that gave Chelsea supporters the first genuine trophy haul of the modern era earned him a reverence at the Bridge that has never dimmed. He was one of the best players in the club's history, not just its most tenacious.
