Emmanuel Petit Arsenal T-Shirt | Players Couture

Emmanuel Petit won the Premier League and FA Cup Double with Arsenal in 1998 and then scored in the World Cup final three weeks later as France beat Brazil 3-0 in Paris — one of the most extraordinary summers any footballer has ever had. His midfield partnership with Patrick Vieira gave Arsenal a physical and technical platform that no other club in England could match at the time, and his ability to carry the ball, press and contribute goals from deep midfield was recognised by France's World Cup win as the highest possible validation.

Petit's time at Arsenal spanned two seasons — enough to win the Double and establish himself as one of the most important midfielders in the Premier League. His physical presence alongside Vieira gave Arsène Wenger's side a combativeness that the more celebrated attacking players could operate in front of with confidence. The World Cup final goal, scored in the final minute of normal time as the clock ran out on Brazil's challenge, was the perfect coda to a season that had produced everything a midfielder could want.
