Sir Geoff Hurst is forever remembered as the England striker who delivered one of the most famous performances in football history. A West Ham United legend, Hurst came through the club’s youth system before becoming a first-team star, scoring heavily for the Hammers and helping the club win the FA Cup in 1964 and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965. He later played for Stoke City, had a loan spell with Cape Town City, represented West Bromwich Albion, Cork Celtic and Seattle Sounders, and also had time with Telford United. For West Ham fans, England fans and lovers of classic British football, Hurst remains a true hero of the game.

His international career made him immortal. Hurst earned 49 caps for England and scored 24 goals, but his defining moment came at the 1966 World Cup. In the final at Wembley, he scored a hat-trick as England beat West Germany 4–2 after extra time, becoming the first player to score three goals in a men’s World Cup final. He also scored the winning goal against Argentina in the quarter-final and later represented England at Euro 1968 and the 1970 World Cup. For many fans, Geoff Hurst is not just a favourite footballer, but a symbol of England’s greatest footballing day.
