Hurts used his graduate-transfer opportunity to join Oklahoma in 2019. He produced 3,851 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns, 1,298 rushing yards and 20 rushing scores. Oklahoma won the Big 12 title and reached the College Football Playoff, while Hurts finished second in Heisman Trophy voting.
His complete college career produced 9,477 passing yards, 80 passing touchdowns, 3,274 rushing yards and 43 rushing scores. He also completed his undergraduate degree at Alabama and later earned a master’s degree from Oklahoma.
Philadelphia selected Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The decision initially surprised observers because the Eagles already had an established starting quarterback, but Hurts gradually earned opportunities and started four games towards the end of his rookie campaign.
He became the regular starter in 2021, passing for 3,144 yards and rushing for 784. The Eagles reached the playoffs, giving Hurts valuable postseason experience during his first full year in charge.
The team took a major step forward in 2022. Hurts improved his accuracy, decision-making and connection with receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. He passed for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns while scoring another 13 times on the ground.
Philadelphia won each of its first eight games and finished the regular season 14–3. Hurts’ personal record in his starts was 14–1, with a shoulder injury keeping him out of two fixtures. His performances earned a first Pro Bowl selection, Second-Team All-Pro recognition and second place in NFL MVP voting.
The Eagles defeated the Giants and 49ers in the playoffs to become NFC champions. In Super Bowl LVII against Kansas City, Hurts produced 304 passing yards, 70 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. His three rushing scores established a Super Bowl quarterback record.
He also ran in a two-point conversion to tie the game during the fourth quarter, personally accounting for 20 points. Philadelphia was eventually defeated 38–35, but Hurts had shown that he could deliver an exceptional performance on the largest stage.
The 2023 season brought 15 rushing touchdowns, surpassing the previous single-season record for a quarterback at the time. Much of Philadelphia’s short-yardage success came through the Brotherly Shove, with Hurts using his leg strength and the power of the offensive line to convert crucial downs.
After an early playoff exit, the Eagles returned with a new offensive approach in 2024. Saquon Barkley added another elite running threat, while Hurts continued to contribute as a passer and goal-line runner. Philadelphia won the NFC East and entered the playoffs with a 14–3 record.
The Eagles defeated Green Bay in the Wild Card Round and overcame snowy conditions against the Los Angeles Rams. They then scored 55 points against Washington in the NFC Championship Game, with Hurts throwing one touchdown pass and rushing for three more.
The result created a Super Bowl rematch with Kansas City. Philadelphia’s defence placed the Chiefs under constant pressure, while Hurts controlled the offence and created decisive plays. He completed 77.3 per cent of his passes and finished with a passer rating of 119.7.
Hurts threw touchdowns to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and scored another himself on the ground. His 72 rushing yards broke his own Super Bowl record for a quarterback. The Eagles won 40–22, preventing Kansas City from claiming a third consecutive championship.
Hurts was named Super Bowl Most Valuable Player after accounting for 293 yards and three touchdowns. The result gave Philadelphia its second Super Bowl title and completed one of the most compelling individual redemption stories in recent American Football history.
The Eagles returned to the postseason after an 11-win 2025 campaign. Hurts passed for 3,224 yards and 25 touchdowns with only six interceptions, while adding 421 rushing yards and eight scores. A Wild Card Round defeat to San Francisco ended the attempt to retain the championship.
Through the completion of that season, Hurts had recorded 17,891 passing yards, 110 touchdown passes, 3,554 rushing yards and 63 rushing touchdowns. His honours included three Pro Bowl selections, Second-Team All-Pro recognition, two NFC championships, a Super Bowl victory and Super Bowl MVP.
Hurts has not competed within a separate senior international tournament structure because his career has developed through American college football and the NFL. His championship performances have nevertheless made him a favourite player among Eagles fans around the world.
