Jay-Jay Okocha was born in Enugu, Nigeria, and began his career at Enugu Rangers before moving to Europe. He played for Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, Paris Saint-Germain, Bolton Wanderers, Qatar SC and Hull City. His time at Bolton under Sam Allardyce from 2002 to 2006 produced some of the most celebrated individual skill performances the Premier League has seen — dribbling past defenders with stepover combinations and ball manipulation that seemed impossible. He was named Bolton’s captain and was the creative engine of a team that consistently punched above its weight. For Nigeria, he earned more than 73 caps and represented the country at three World Cups. He was named African Player of the Year in 1998 and 2004.
