Internationally, Mascherano was a bedrock for Argentina. He earned over 140 caps, captained his country, and featured in multiple Copa América and World Cup campaigns. He also won two Olympic gold medals (2004, 2008), a rare double in the global game.

In 2025, Mascherano transitioned into management and now leads Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer — where he is reunited with former teammates Messi, Busquets, Suarez and Alba. His deep experience as a player and tactical discipline makes him a hero on and off the pitch.
