The Nwankwo Kanu hoodie from Players Couture carries the name of the Nigerian forward who won the European club football with Ajax at eighteen, overcame open-heart surgery to play at the highest level and became one of the most beloved players in Arsenal’s history across the chest in bold lettering, contrasting colour, made to order when you place yours. Nwankwo Kanu was part of the Ajax side that won the European club football in 1995, was part of Arsenal’s Invincibles squad in 2003-04, won three FA Cups and is remembered at Highbury for a hat-trick against Chelsea that has become one of the most celebrated Arsenal moments of the era. Nwankwo Kanu won the European club football with Ajax in 1995 at eighteen, then joined Inter Milan. A serious heart condition requiring open-heart surgery threatened his career, but he returned and joined Arsenal in 1999 for £4.15 million. In five seasons at Highbury he won two Premier League titles — including the Invincibles season in 2003-04 — and three FA Cups. His hat-trick against Chelsea in September 1999 — coming on as a substitute and scoring three times in the final fifteen minutes including the winner with an outrageous lob after running past three defenders and the goalkeeper — is one of the most celebrated individual moments in Arsenal’s history. For Nigeria, he earned more than 80 caps. He also won African Player of the Year in 1996 and 1999.
