Paul Gascoigne Newcastle United Hoodie | Players Couture

Paul Gascoigne came through Newcastle United's academy and made his first-team debut at 17, displaying immediately the combination of extraordinary natural ability, close control and creative intelligence that would make him one of the most talked-about footballers England had produced in decades. His early Newcastle years were the formation of a player who was simultaneously the most exciting and the most unpredictable talent in the country — qualities that were entirely evident from the first time he stepped onto the St James' Park turf in a senior match.

Gascoigne left Newcastle for Tottenham in 1988, but his Geordie roots and his connection to the region remained part of his identity throughout his career. The player the northeast produced — instinctive, generous with the ball and entirely devoid of inhibition when in possession — gave the academy at Newcastle something to point to as evidence of what their development pathway could produce at its very best.
