Bringing Wednesday to Netflix

Gough and Millar, the duo behind Smallville, reimagined Charles Addams's famous character as a teenager packed off to Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts. Tim Burton signed on to direct four episodes and executive produce, and Jenna Ortega was cast in the title role, with Christina Ricci - Wednesday herself in the 1991 film - joining as a teacher. Danny Elfman, Burton's long-time collaborator, wrote the theme.

A Record-Breaking Debut and That Dance

Season 1 landed on 23 November 2022 and logged 341 million hours in its first week, then a record for an English-language Netflix series. Within weeks it passed one billion hours viewed. The breakout moment was Wednesday's dance at the Rave'N, set to The Cramps' Goo Goo Muck, which Ortega choreographed herself. It sparked a TikTok craze, with fans also dancing to Lady Gaga's Bloody Mary.
