Early Years in Dunblane
Andy was born in Glasgow and grew up in Dunblane, where tennis was the family business. His mum, Judy, was his first coach, and his older brother Jamie also became a professional player. Later Leon Smith guided him, and in 2004 he beat Sergiy Stakhovsky to become the first British boy to win the US Open junior title.

The Breakthrough Summer of 2012
Murray turned professional in 2005 and won his first ATP title in San Jose in 2006. The trouble was the company he kept: he lost his first four major finals, including to Federer at Wimbledon in 2012. Weeks later he walked back onto the same grass and beat Federer for Olympic gold at London 2012. Then, at the US Open, he outlasted Djokovic in five sets to become the first British man to win a Grand Slam singles title in 76 years.

Wimbledon, Davis Cup and World No.1
In July 2013 Murray beat Djokovic in straight sets to become Wimbledon champion, ending 77 years of British hurt in the men's singles. In 2015 he carried Great Britain to their first Davis Cup since 1936. Then came 2016, the finest season of his life: a second Wimbledon crown against Milos Raonic, a second Olympic gold against Juan Martín del Potro in Rio, and victory over Djokovic at the ATP Finals to finish the year as world No.1. He was the first British player to top the rankings.

The Comeback Years and a Farewell
Injury hit hard after that peak, but Murray fought back to win his 46th and final title in Antwerp in 2019. His goodbye came in 2024, with a Centre Court tribute at Wimbledon and a last doubles run with Dan Evans at the Paris Olympics. His 739 tour-level wins are the most by a British man.
