Mark Wahlberg's Hollywood Story

Doug Ellin created the show with Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson among its executive producers, loosely drawing on Wahlberg's own early days in Hollywood with friends from home. The pilot premiered on HBO on 18 July 2004.

At its heart are rising star Vincent Chase, his best friend and manager Eric, his actor brother Johnny "Drama" Chase and loyal friend Turtle.

The show quickly became known for its cameos, with real stars and directors regularly playing themselves, and for its insider take on agents, studios, premieres and the deals that make or break a career. Season 2's storyline about Vince starring in a superhero blockbuster, Aquaman, directed by James Cameron playing himself, became one of its most famous arcs.

Ari Gold Steals the Show

Jeremy Piven's fast-talking agent Ari Gold, said to be inspired by real-life agent Ari Emanuel, quickly became the show's breakout character. Piven won three Emmys in a row for the role, from 2006 to 2008.

Alongside him, Rex Lee's Lloyd and Perrey Reeves as Mrs. Ari became much-loved supporting characters.

From Series to Big Screen

After eight seasons the show ended on 11 September 2011. The gang returned for the 2015 film Entourage, written and directed by Ellin and released in the US on 3 June 2015, taking $49.3 million worldwide.

Behind the Scenes

Several characters drew on real people from Wahlberg's circle, with Turtle inspired by a friend from his early career and Drama partly by his cousin. Kevin Dillon earned three Emmy nominations as Drama, and the show was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series without winning.
