Alfredo Di Stéfano played for Real Madrid between 1953 and 1964 and won the European Cup five consecutive times — a record that has never been approached since. The Argentine-born forward who became a Spanish international was arguably the most complete player of his generation, a striker who operated across the entire pitch at a time when that was simply not what centre-forwards were expected to do.

Real Madrid's early European dominance was built around Di Stéfano. His goals, his vision, his ability to control the tempo of matches and his understanding with Ferenc Puskás created the most feared attacking partnership in the history of the European Cup. The five consecutive titles between 1956 and 1960 remain the benchmark for continental dominance, and Di Stéfano was the player at the centre of all of it. His goal tally for Real Madrid across all competitions remains extraordinary for a player who spent significant energy creating for others.
