Andreas Brehme remains best remembered as the man who scored the winning penalty for West Germany in the 1990 World Cup final against Argentina. A composed, technically gifted full-back and wing-back, Brehme was famous for his incredible two-footed ability, dangerous crossing, set-piece quality and calmness under pressure. His club career included spells with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Real Zaragoza and Saarbrücken, with standout success in Germany and Italy. At Inter Milan, he was part of a powerful German-influenced side alongside Lothar Matthäus and Jürgen Klinsmann, winning Serie A and the UEFA Cup.

For West Germany and Germany, Brehme earned 86 caps and scored 8 goals. He played at the 1986, 1990 and 1994 World Cups, reaching the final in 1986 and becoming a world champion in 1990. His 1990 tournament legacy is unforgettable: decisive performances, huge composure, and the iconic final-winning moment that made him a football hero forever.
