Bill Slater, the thinking footballer at Wolves
Bill Slater combined an outstanding football career with achievements away from the game that made him unusual even in a distinguished Wolverhampton Wanderers side. Born in Clitheroe, he played for Blackpool while studying and appeared in the 1951 FA Cup final before joining Brentford and then Wolves. Used at wing-half and inside-forward, he brought intelligence, stamina and composure to Stan Cullis's team.
With Wolves, Slater won league championships in 1957 to 1958, 1958 to 1959 and 1963 to 1964, as well as the 1960 FA Cup. He was named Footballer of the Year in 1960 and represented England 12 times. He had also played for Great Britain at the 1952 Olympic Games. His academic life continued alongside football: he studied dentistry, later worked in education and became a senior sports administrator.
A name for supporters who know the whole story
Slater represents a celebrated Wolves era when floodlit European friendlies, domestic titles and forceful attacking football helped shape the club's identity. His name works as a Players Couture design for fans who value versatility, intelligence and service as much as headline goals. It is knowledgeable football clothing without copying a crest or historical shirt.
How to wear the Bill Slater T-shirt
Wear it on match day, for away travel, at a pub screening or through an ordinary weekend when a replica shirt is not the easiest option. Pair it with denim and trainers, add an overshirt in cooler weather, or wear it with shorts through summer. It gives football supporters a clear way to represent the player and the memories behind the name. White gives the print a crisp finish, Black and Navy provide easy darker options, Grey has a softer athletic character and Red adds more impact.
Fit, fabric and made-to-order production
The T-shirt is made from soft ringspun cotton with a crew neck, short sleeves and a regular men's fit. It is available in White, Black, Red, Navy and Grey in sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. Check the size guide before ordering, particularly when buying for somebody else or choosing a looser fit.
Each garment is printed to order in the United Kingdom after the customer selects the colour and size. No finished pre-printed stock is produced before an order is placed. This reduces the need to hold large quantities of finished stock and allows Players Couture to maintain specialist names alongside widely recognised favourites. Free UK delivery is included.
Wash inside out with similar colours on a cool cycle. Avoid bleach, do not iron directly over the print and air dry where practical. These steps help protect the cotton shape and printed lettering through repeat wear.
