Brian Clough Nottingham Forest Hoodie | Players Couture
Brian Clough took Nottingham Forest from the Second Division to back-to-back European Cup victories in three seasons — 1979 and 1980 — in what remains the most remarkable achievement in the history of British club management. No other manager in the history of the European Cup or Champions League has won the competition with a club so recently promoted from the lower divisions. Forest's achievement stands alone.
Clough's genius was in extracting the maximum from players who, individually, would not have been considered capable of European Cup glory. His man-management, his clarity of tactical vision, his willingness to make unpopular decisions and his absolute confidence that he was right combined to create a culture at the City Ground where winning became expected. The European Cup victory against Malmö in 1979 and the defence of the trophy against Hamburg in 1980 were backed up by a First Division title in 1978 — an achievement that the club has never come close to matching since.
If you're a Nottingham Forest fan or looking for a gift for someone who understands what Clough built, this Players Couture design captures the greatest manager in Forest's history on the touchline in the famous garibaldi red.
