Ray Clemence, calm excellence for Liverpool, Tottenham and England

Ray Clemence joined Liverpool from Scunthorpe United and became the goalkeeper behind one of the club's greatest periods. His positioning, concentration and speed from the line suited a side that often dominated possession but still required decisive saves. Across 665 Liverpool appearances he won five league titles, three European Cups, two UEFA Cups, the FA Cup and League Cup.

Moving to Tottenham in 1981 did not make his career a farewell. Clemence won the FA Cup in his first season and later added the UEFA Cup, eventually passing 1,000 senior appearances. He earned 61 England caps during a long competition with Peter Shilton and later contributed as a respected coach with Tottenham and the national team.
