David Platt is one of the most underappreciated England players of the modern era. An intelligent, mobile midfielder who could score from anywhere. A player who thrived in Serie A, the most tactically demanding league of his era. A man who scored one of the most celebrated England goals of all time. This David Platt hoodie from Players Couture is for fans who know exactly what he brought to the England shirt and want to represent that knowledge. Fan apparel for the genuine football historian.

Platt was born in Chadderton, Greater Manchester, in 1966. He started his professional career at Manchester United but made his name at Aston Villa, where he established himself as one of the best midfielders in England with his combination of box-to-box running, technical quality and an exceptional ability to arrive late and score goals from the edge of the area. His performances for Villa earned him recognition at international level and a place in England's 1990 World Cup squad in Italy.

At Italia 90, Platt became one of the faces of England's most romantic summer. In the round of 16 against Belgium, in the final seconds of extra time with the match goalless, Paul Gascoigne swung in a free kick. Platt, running onto the ball with his back to goal, swivelled and volleyed it into the net in one breathtaking movement. The goal that sent England through. A moment that has been replayed thousands of times since. England eventually reached the semi-finals of that tournament before losing on penalties to West Germany, but Platt's goal in that match against Belgium is one of the moments from that summer that nobody who watched it has ever forgotten.

After Italia 90, Platt was one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe. He moved to Bari in Serie A in 1991, then to Juventus, Sampdoria and finally Aston Villa again before spending time at Nottingham Forest. He earned 62 caps for England and scored 27 international goals, an extraordinary ratio for a midfielder. He is one of the most prolific international midfielders England has ever produced.
