Eben Etzebeth has combined exceptional physical power with lineout skill and surprising handling throughout a record-setting Springbok career. The Cape Town lock developed with Western Province and the Stormers, played in Japan and for Toulon, then returned to South Africa with the Sharks. He was central to Rugby World Cup victories in 2019 and 2023 and captained the Sharks to the 2024 Challenge Cup, the first major European trophy won by a South African side. In 2024 Etzebeth passed Victor Matfield to become South Africa's most-capped player, extending the record to 141 Tests by the end of 2025.
