1966. The year that defines English football. The year Bobby Moore lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy at Wembley. The year England became world champions for the only time in their history. This England 1966 Icon hoodie from Players Couture is made for fans who carry that achievement with them as part of what it means to support the national team. Fan apparel built around the most important date in English football history.

England hosted the 1966 FIFA World Cup and played every group stage match and every knockout game at Wembley Stadium. Manager Alf Ramsey constructed a team that blended youth and experience, discipline and flair. Gordon Banks provided reliability in goal. The back line was organised around Bobby Moore, whose reading of the game and composure in possession was exceptional. Bobby Charlton was the driving force from midfield, his power and range making him one of the most feared players in the tournament. Martin Peters provided intelligence and goalscoring from deep. And Geoff Hurst, despite not being in the original starting line-up, became the tournament's defining attacking presence.

The final against West Germany at Wembley on 30 July 1966 produced ninety minutes of drama followed by thirty more in extra time. Hurst scored twice after Peters had given England the lead they then surrendered. His third goal, struck as fans spilled onto the pitch in the final seconds, gave England a 4-2 victory and the trophy. The footage has been watched billions of times since. Bobby Moore wiping his hands before accepting the trophy from the Queen. Banks, Charlton, Hurst, Ball, Peters, Cohen, Wilson, Stiles, Hunt, Charlton and Moore. The team that gave England its finest footballing hour.

Sixty years later, that achievement still defines how England fans think about the national team. Every tournament is measured against 1966. Every golden generation is asked when they will do what Ramsey's men did.
