Eusebio da Silva Ferreira is the greatest Portuguese footballer of the twentieth century. The Black Panther. A striker of such explosiveness, such physical presence and such technical brilliance that he remains a benchmark for what a centre-forward can be more than fifty years after he played his best football. This Eusebio hoodie from Players Couture is for fans who know the history of Portuguese football and want to celebrate the man who began it all. Fan apparel built around a true legend of the global game.

Eusebio was born in Maputo, Mozambique, in 1942, when it was still the Portuguese colony of Lourenco Marques. He came to Benfica's attention in the early 1960s and quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous forwards in European football. His physical attributes were extraordinary — he was fast, powerful, two-footed and capable of generating more power in a shot than virtually any player of his era. At Benfica he scored more than 700 career goals and became the most celebrated figure in Portuguese football.

The 1965-66 season was the finest of Eusebio's career. He won the European Cup with Benfica in 1962, scoring twice in the final against Real Madrid. At the 1966 World Cup in England, he led Portugal to third place and finished as the tournament's top scorer with nine goals — a performance that made him a household name across Europe. He scored four times in a single match against North Korea in the quarter-finals, turning a 3-0 deficit into a 5-3 victory in one of the most remarkable second-half performances in World Cup history. He was named the best player of the tournament and finished as its top scorer.

He won the Ballon d'Or in 1965 and was the European Golden Boot in 1968. He played 64 times for Portugal and scored 41 international goals, a record that stood for decades. He passed away in January 2014 at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy that every Portuguese football fan carries with them. Ronaldo may have surpassed his records but Eusebio was the first.
