Fabrizio Ravanelli Middlesbrough T-Shirt | Players Couture

Fabrizio Ravanelli joined Middlesbrough from Juventus in the summer of 1996 as a Champions League winner who had scored in that year's final — and scored a hat-trick on his Premier League debut against Liverpool. The White Feather, named for the patch of grey-white hair that distinguished him visually, was the most extraordinary signing in Middlesbrough's history and his arrival signalled an ambition at the Riverside that the club has not matched before or since.

Ravanelli scored 31 goals that season despite Middlesbrough's relegation — goals that came in conditions that a player of his background was not prepared for, against defenders who were often inferior to what he had faced in Serie A, but which he scored with the professionalism of someone for whom not scoring was the more uncomfortable option. His connection with the Teesside crowd was instant and genuine. He gave them a European quality striker at a time when that was almost unimaginable at that level, and Boro supporters have never forgotten it.
