Wirtz was born in Pulheim, near Cologne, in 2003 and came through the Cologne youth academy before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2020. He made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 17 and immediately showed that his level was different. For Germany, Wirtz has been a key player at the international level since breaking into the squad as a teenager.
