He also won the World Cup Golden Boot, scored 48 goals for England and was one of the most clinical finishers in European football for a decade. He represents a kind of footballer that feels rare: technically excellent, utterly reliable, completely disciplined and never in trouble with referees. He retired from club football in 1994 and moved into broadcasting, becoming one of the most recognised faces in British football media.
