Gianluigi Buffon made his Serie A debut at seventeen for Parma in 1995 and moved to Juventus in 2001 for a then world record fee for a goalkeeper of £32.6 million. He spent seventeen seasons at the club, winning nine Serie A titles and reaching two European club football finals. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he kept five clean sheets in seven games as Italy won the tournament, conceding only two goals — both own goals. He was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
