Emile Heskey has perhaps been more mocked than celebrated — yet his record tells a different story. He was the signing that made Liverpool's 2001 cup treble possible, a physical, direct centre-forward who dragged defenders out of position and created the space that Owen and others exploited. Gérard Houllier paid £11 million for him, a club record at the time, and he delivered in the biggest moments — including a goal in the UEFA Cup final against Alaves.
For England he earned 58 caps across a decade — often doing the hardest work in a partnership that produced goals for others. After Liverpool he had spells at Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic, Aston Villa and Sunderland, consistently performing at a level that the jokes never quite acknowledged. Wear the name — Heskey always deserved more credit than he got.
