Mark Hughes — Sparky — played with a ferocity and commitment that made him one of the most feared strikers in British football across the late 1980s and early 1990s. At Manchester United across two spells he scored 163 goals in 467 appearances, won two FA Cups, the Cup Winners' Cup and the inaugural Premier League season. His ability to hold the ball up with his back to goal, turn defenders and finish with power from any angle made him the ideal focal point for Ferguson's developing side.

For Wales he earned 72 caps and scored 16 international goals, appearing at major qualifying campaigns across two decades and winning Welsh Player of the Year four times. After United he had spells at Chelsea, Southampton, Everton and Blackburn before moving into management, taking Wales, Blackburn, Manchester City, Fulham, QPR, Stoke City and Southampton through various chapters.
