He first made his mark in Europe with Atlético Madrid, where he quickly established himself as one of La Liga’s most dangerous strikers. However, it was his move to Real Madrid that cemented his legendary status. During his time at Real Madrid in the 1980s, Sánchez was the spearhead of a dominant side, winning multiple La Liga titles and finishing as the league’s top scorer on several occasions. His acrobatic volleys, overhead kicks and ice-cold penalties made him a favourite among supporters and a nightmare for defenders.

Across his career in Spain, he also played for Rayo Vallecano, continuing to find the net with remarkable consistency. Before Europe, he starred for UNAM (Pumas) in Mexico, and later returned to Mexican football to play for Club América, Atlante and Atlético Celaya.
