The story behind the Joey Manu name

Joseph 'Joey' Manu developed into one of rugby league's most complete backs with the Sydney Roosters. Comfortable at centre, full-back or five-eighth, he combined footwork, strength after contact and creative passing. Premiership victories in 2018 and 2019 established him at club level, while performances for New Zealand included a central role in the Kiwis' 2023 Pacific Championships final victory over Australia.

Career, culture and lasting relevance

Manu moved to Japanese rugby union with Toyota Verblitz in 2024, testing his handling and running game in a different code. In 2026 he agreed to become a foundation signing for the Papua New Guinea Chiefs ahead of their planned 2028 NRL entry. That future move connects an elite New Zealand international with a project carrying enormous meaning for Papua New Guinean rugby league. His career therefore spans Roosters success, international versatility, a union chapter and a landmark expansion story.

JOEY MANU represents two premierships, Kiwi ambition and a back who can change a match from several positions. The design gives supporters a clear name reference without copying club or international marks.
