John Greig captained Glasgow Rangers through their 1972 Cup Winners’ Cup victory — the only European trophy in the club’s history — and is voted by supporters as the greatest player in Rangers history. His sixteen years at Ibrox spanning five Scottish league titles and six cups were defined by a loyalty that the Ibrox crowd recognised and repaid with unconditional devotion.

Greig’s connection to Rangers was total across his entire adult life — as a player, as a manager and as a figurehead for what the club represented. The statue outside Ibrox places him permanently at the heart of the institution he served, and supporters who vote him the club’s greatest ever player understand exactly what that service meant across two decades.
