Laurent Koscielny took an unusually patient route to elite football, moving through Guingamp, Tours and Lorient before Arsenal signed him in 2010. Quick across the ground and brave when stepping ahead of a forward, the centre-back could recover from danger and carry the ball into midfield.

He won three FA Cups with Arsenal and scored on the final league day in 2012 to secure Champions League qualification. Koscielny earned more than fifty France caps, although injury cost him a place in the 2018 World Cup-winning squad.
