Marco van Basten Ajax T-Shirt | Players Couture

Marco van Basten scored 128 goals in 133 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax and won the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987 before his move to AC Milan brought him three Ballon d’Or awards and two European Cups. His Ajax years were the formation of one of the most complete strikers the game has produced — the technical foundation, the movement and the finishing technique that made him virtually unstoppable when the chance arrived.

Ajax’s system produced Van Basten as it had produced Cruyff before him, and the goals he scored in Amsterdam at a rate that made his subsequent European record feel like the natural continuation of something already extraordinary gave the club a forward whose eventual move to Milan was the most expensive loss in Dutch football history.
