At Aston Villa, his combination of pace, pressing from the front and clinical finishing drove the club to Champions League qualification, and his goals-to-shot ratio consistently ranked among the Premier League’s very best.

Watkins joined Villa from Brentford in 2020 and developed into one of the Premier League’s most complete centre-forwards — his pressing as important to Unai Emery’s system as his goalscoring. Villa supporters have a number nine whose ceiling remains significantly higher than where his career has reached so far.
