About Robin Roefs: The Rising Star Between the Posts

Robin Gerardus Petrus Roefs (born 17 January 2003) is a Dutch goalkeeper who now plies his trade for Sunderland in the Premier League. He made the high-profile move from NEC Nijmegen in August 2025, signing a five-year contract.

Before that, Roefs climbed through the ranks at NEC, after first being spotted at youth level with local side VV Heeswijk. He made his senior debut in September 2023, stepping in during a 3–0 win over Utrecht after a teammate’s injury, and shortly after earned a start against Vitesse. Over the 2024–25 season, he established himself as first choice, racking up more than 30 league appearances and proving himself dependable under pressure.

On the international stage, Roefs has represented the Netherlands at youth levels — U16, U17, U19 and U21 — and was first called up to the senior national squad in August 2025.

Now, in England’s top flight, he already turns heads. In a recent Premier League outing at Selhurst Park, he was hailed as the hero after producing six key saves to preserve a 0–0 draw for Sunderland. In another fixture, he denied a penalty against Brentford, cementing his status as a fan favourite.
