Sergio Aguero Atletico Madrid Hoodie | Players Couture

Sergio Agüero spent two seasons at Atlético Madrid before his move to Manchester City in 2011 — and in those two years gave the club's supporters enough evidence of what was coming to make his departure genuinely painful. The Argentine striker scored 74 goals in 175 appearances for the club, demonstrated the movement and clinical finishing that would later make him one of the Premier League's greatest ever scorers, and showed the intensity in training that Atlético's football demanded. Agüero at the Calderón was the beginning of something exceptional.

His time in Madrid gave him the foundation for what followed at City, where he became the club's all-time leading scorer with 260 goals. The relationship with Diego Simeone at Atlético shaped the defensive discipline and work ethic that allowed his individual qualities to function in a team setting. Atlético supporters who watched him before the big move north saw a striker who was going to be one of the best of his generation — they were right, and the fact that City got him does not diminish what he showed in red and white.
