Tommy Hutchinson Coventry City T-Shirt | Players Couture

Tommy Hutchison made one of the most unusual individual contributions in FA Cup final history in 1981 when he scored for both Coventry City and Manchester City in the same match — the first player to score for both sides in a Wembley final. The Scottish winger's own goal cancelled out his earlier strike and forced a replay that Coventry ultimately lost, but the curiosity of that double contribution has kept him in FA Cup discussion for decades in a way that reflects the charm of football's odd moments as much as individual quality.

Hutchison's Coventry years were the peak of his career in English football — a winger who could cross, who could dribble and who had the technical quality that made him difficult to account for at full-back level. His contribution to a Coventry side that competed at the top level of English football in the early 1980s was genuine and consistent, and the FA Cup final appearance was the reward for a period at the club when the Sky Blues were a legitimate presence in the First Division.
