Wayne Rooney Everton T-Shirt | Players Couture

Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick for Everton against Arsenal at Goodison Park in October 2002 at the age of 16 — one of the most celebrated debut performances the Premier League has produced. The Croxteth-born forward's announcement to the country was immediate and unforgettable, and the five years he spent coming through Everton's academy before his departure to Manchester United gave the club a connection to the finest English player of his generation that supporters still feel.

Rooney's teenage Everton years were the foundation of a career that would go on to produce every major honour in club and country. His instinct, his physical courage and the sheer certainty with which he played at 16 against some of the Premier League's most experienced defenders told supporters exactly what they were watching. Everton fans who were there for those two seasons remember a player who was theirs before he was the world's.
