Cobra Kai may have taken its final bow in February 2025, but the Miyagi-verse is still very much alive in 2026. The six-season Netflix hit wrapped up its story with the series finale on 13 February 2025, and a few months later Ralph Macchio carried Daniel LaRusso onto the big screen in Karate Kid: Legends alongside Jackie Chan and Ben Wang.

Origins: Back to the All Valley
The show picks up 34 years after Daniel LaRusso beat Johnny Lawrence at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. The twist was telling it from Johnny's side. William Zabka, who played the blond bully in the original film, returned as a down-on-his-luck Johnny who reopens the Cobra Kai dojo, while Ralph Macchio came back as Daniel, now a successful car dealer in the Valley.

Behind the Scenes
Although the story is set in Los Angeles, most of Cobra Kai was shot in and around Atlanta, Georgia, with Marietta, Conyers and Emory University's Briarcliff campus standing in for the Valley. The South Seas Apartments in Reseda kept the link to the 1984 film. When Netflix picked the show up from YouTube in 2020, a much bigger audience discovered it. Production on the final season was paused during the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

The Defining Moments
Each season raised the stakes. The cast of teenagers, led by Xolo Maridueña as Miguel, Tanner Buchanan as Robby and Mary Mouser as Samantha, grew into a story of their own, and old faces kept returning. Martin Kove returned as John Kreese and Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver from The Karate Kid Part III. Season 6 took the dojos to the international Sekai Taikai tournament, giving Daniel and Johnny one last fight to win together.
Where It Is Now
The final episodes arrived on 13 February 2025. The universe carried on in cinemas with Karate Kid: Legends, released in the US on 30 May 2025 and directed by Jonathan Entwistle, in which Macchio and Jackie Chan train a new student and Zabka makes an appearance as Johnny. The creators have said they would love to keep exploring the Miyagi-verse, but no new series has been confirmed.
