The Rise to Featherweight King

His UFC debut in April 2013 brought a first round knockout of Marcus Brimage. A win over a young Max Holloway followed, then a roaring Dublin homecoming in 2014 and knockouts of Dustin Poirier and Dennis Siver.

When José Aldo withdrew from UFC 189, McGregor stopped Chad Mendes for the interim belt. Then, at UFC 194 in December 2015, he knocked Aldo out with a single counter left after just 13 seconds, a record for a UFC title fight.

Two Belts and the Biggest Stage

Up at welterweight on short notice, McGregor was submitted at UFC 196, then won the UFC 202 rematch on a majority decision. In November 2016 at Madison Square Garden, he stopped Eddie Alvarez in round two to become a two-weight champion.

In August 2017 he crossed codes to box Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas, and was stopped in the tenth round of one of the most watched fights ever. At UFC 229 in 2018, Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted him in the fourth round.

Later Career and the 2026 Comeback

McGregor returned in January 2020 to stop Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds at UFC 246. Two 2021 defeats to Dustin Poirier followed, the second ending when McGregor broke his lower leg.

The road back led to a UFC 329 rematch with Holloway, 13 years after their first fight. The knee injury, later revealed as ACL and meniscus damage, ended it inside 69 seconds. He had surgery that summer and intends to fight again.
