The Story: Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri
Based on Andrzej Sapkowski's books, The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter for hire, the powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg and Ciri, a princess with a dangerous destiny, as their fates become tied together.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich developed the series for Netflix, and it premiered in December 2019.

The Cast: A New Geralt
Henry Cavill played Geralt for the first three seasons, with Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as the bard Jaskier.
Liam Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt for season 4, released on 30 October 2025, and returns for the final season.

Behind the Scenes: Filming Locations
Season 1 was shot in Hungary, including Mafilm Studios near Budapest, with scenes in Poland's Ogrodzieniec Castle and Spain's Canary Islands. Later seasons were based in the UK, with location work in Croatia, Italy and Slovenia.
Season 4 used Longcross Studios in England, and the final season filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, wrapping in October 2025.

The world has grown well beyond the main show, with the animated film Nightmare of the Wolf (2021), the prequel miniseries Blood Origin (2022), the animated film Sirens of the Deep (2025) and the special The Rats: A Witcher Tale (2025).
