Alisson Becker changed what people expected from a goalkeeper. Technically brilliant, composed under the most intense pressure and capable of playing football from the back in a way that left commentators searching for comparisons, he has been one of the defining players of his era. Alisson grew up in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, in a football family. After coming through the youth ranks at Internacional, he moved to AS Roma in Italy in 2016. His two seasons in Serie A confirmed him as the best goalkeeper in the world. Liverpool paid a world record fee for a goalkeeper to sign him in 2018, a statement of intent from a club building towards something historic. They got what they paid for. In his very first season at Anfield, Alisson kept 21 clean sheets in the Premier League, winning the Golden Glove, while Liverpool finished second with 97 points. In the same season, he saved the penalty in a Champions League semi-final shootout against Roma, the club he had left just months earlier, helping Liverpool reach the final. They won it.

The following season, Liverpool won the Premier League title. Alisson won the Golden Glove again. In 2021, with Liverpool facing the prospect of missing out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season, he scored a header from a corner in the 95th minute at West Brom to send the Kop into delirium. A goalkeeper scoring the goal that kept Liverpool's season alive. It was a moment that the game will not forget. He continues to represent Brazil as first-choice goalkeeper, one of the most capped and most decorated goalkeepers the country has produced.
