Kenny Dalglish joined Liverpool from Celtic in 1977 for a British record fee of £440,000 — and repaid every penny within his first season, scoring the winning goal in the 1978 European Cup final against Bruges at Wembley. What followed was nine seasons as the finest player in English football: league titles, European Cups, FA Cups, and a bond with the Kop that has never been matched before or since. His combination of movement, touch, vision and finishing remains the benchmark by which Liverpool strikers are judged.
As manager he delivered three league titles and two FA Cups before returning in 2011 to guide Liverpool to a League Cup and an FA Cup final. For Scotland he won 102 caps and scored 30 international goals, appearing at three World Cups. He was awarded a knighthood in 2018. Wear the name with pride.
