Pieter-Steph du Toit became one of South Africa's defining forwards through relentless work rate and the ability to excel at lock or flanker. After early rugby with the Sharks, he joined the Stormers and later Toyota Verblitz in Japan. For the Springboks he was central to World Cup victories in 2019 and 2023, producing an immense defensive performance in the 2023 final against New Zealand. World Rugby named him Men's 15s Player of the Year in both 2019 and 2024, a rare second award that reflected his consistency at the highest level. In 2026 he remained an important Springbok and took on captaincy responsibility.
